Q: Is there any sort of free trial version?
you can sign up for a 45-day trial to explore the complete product. Follow this link to sign up for a free 45-day-trial version
Alternatively, you can use our instant test-drive
to check straight away how the app works by logging into our Mbook test server. Please note that the server for the test drive is only meant to see how the app works, therefore all records are deleted on daily basis.
You can read more about how to test Mbook in the following tutorial
testing and subscribing to Mbook workflow.
Q: What do I get with my subscription?
- Mbook installation
- 4GB storage per user
- Email support
- Instant online access
- Automatic backups
- Multiuser collaboration
- In app messaging
- Web and tablet interface
Q: Why are the different users?
A: Mbook has been designed to allow users to access different functionality and data to meet their differing requirements. This means Mbook is suitable for all sizes of company and their varying organizational structures.
- Admin: This user can create groups and group managers. The administrator cannot create projects or reactions. Follow this link to watch a tutorial on how to create users
- Group Manager: This user is able to create projects and groups with experiments and reactions. The group manager can also assign projects to the users.
- Project Manager: This user can create projects and assign users to the projects. The project manager will not be entitled to create groups.
- Bench Chemist: This user can create reactions and experiments but not groups or users.

Q: Can this ELN interact with my raw data?
A: Yes, as long as your raw data is uploaded as Mnova NMR or MS data files.
One unique feature of Mbook is that that you can interact with the raw data you upload. Mbook is a spectral ELN that supports analytical data.
Once you upload your raw data, the spectrum will be automatically processed and analysed (peak picking, integration, multiplet analysis) by using the Mnova automation engine.
Q: I am used to paper notebooks, would this ELN really save me time?
A: Yes, Mbook delivers excellent time saving capabilities when compared to a traditional paper notebook.
You will no longer have to waste time searching for data in a stack of paper notebooks or spend time decoding your colleague’s unreadable handwriting.
Mbook eliminates the learning curve associated with most software products and as it is a searchable system it is very accessible thus improving your time efficiency. Additionally, the interconnectivity with your Mnova data, unique feature for any ELN in the market will improve your work efficiency.
Q: What will my reports look like?
A: Mbook generates high quality, consistent reports quickly and effortlessly via the reporting automation. You can easily select the spectra and images you want to include in your report in one click.
Q: How big is Mbook’s compound library?
A: Mbook comes equipped with a library of more than 2,500 compounds commonly used in synthetic chemistry. This not only delivers significant time savings but also avoids drawing errors. You can also add compounds to the library to avoid re-drawing them.
Q: What exactly is the messaging service?
A: Mbook supports internal messaging. This allows users to easily and quickly exchange messages, which are automatically attached to the Experiment and Reactions to which they relate.
Q: Do you need a powerful server or IT department to use Mbook?
A: All you need to run Mbook is a subscription and access to a web browser (Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safari or Firefox). Only basic IT capabilities are needed to install, maintain and update the software.
Q: Do I have to use the Cloud data storage or is there an alternative?
A: Mbook is a flexible system and as such an in-house alternative to the Cloud based system is available. It can be installed on your own servers and accessible to your users via their browsers avoiding the need for Cloud storage. Contact us if you are interested in this installation.
Q: Is this ELN very different from the others?
Yes, we believe this new Electronic Lab Notebook created in collaboration with the University of Santiago
and the University of Vigo
has got very unique features. It has been made focused on the needs of the organic chemists, with a well-structured and friendly interface, and full of features to speed-up the synthetic chemist?s write-up. Interacting with your raw analytical data
is a feature that other ELN’s do not possess.
Q: Does Mbook allow countersigning experiments?
Yes, Mbook offers you the possibility of witnessing and also approving experiments. Witnesses will receive a notification via the in-app messaging service. You can read more about it in our getting started guide
and the manual
Q: Can I import structures from my own drawing package?
Yes, you can import your structures from your preferred drawing package as long as they are .mol files. For this go to File/Import file on Mbook’s Molecular Editor
Q: How can I upload my analytical raw data (Mnova files)?
A: You can upload a zip file containing your original NMR or MS data in the Files/Characterization section as shown below. This will automatically process your spectra. If the spectra has already been processed you just need to upload your Mnova data.
Q: Are you planning to increase the size of your compound library?
Yes, our team is currently working to increase considerably the size of the library of more than 2500 compounds. Your Mbook (on the Cloud) will be automatically updated.
Q: Will Mbook keep my data even if I leave my group or organization?
A: Yes, your data will be kept and only people with the privilege from your team will be able to access to your data.
Q: How can Mbook on the Cloud guarantee data security?
We believe that AWS (Amazon Web Services
) cloud infrastructure has been architected to be one of the most flexible and secure cloud computing
environments available today. It provides an extremely scalable, highly reliable platform that enables customers to deploy applications and data quickly and securely.
