Dr. David Williamson, Product Manager and Applications Group Leader at Oxford Instruments gave a webinar on how to overcome spectral overlap at 60 MHz  using 2D NMR on benchtop spectrometers.


One of the challenges for BT NMR is frequency dispersion.  At 60 MHz a 10 ppm chemical shift range corresponds to only 600 Hz while at 300 MHz it is 3000 Hz. The scalar coupling, which is responsible for the splitting patterns, is independent of magnetic field thus a 6 Hz splitting is 0.1 ppm at 60 MHz while it is 0.02ppm at 300 MHz. These two factors combine to exacerbate spectral overlap in data from lower field spectrometers.


In this webinar we explore a number of methods for addressing this challenge. These range from processing and analysis methods to classic 2D NMR experiments, including COSY, J-resolved and TOCSY.
