Installation

System Requirements

Before installation, please read this chapter. In this section you will find information on which hardware and software requirements must be met before you can install Mnova. In any case, it is worth noting that Mnova is a multiplatform software which will run alternatively on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. From now on, multiplatform laboratories will be able to allow each researcher to work on their Operating System of choice, and to seamlessly share data and processing capabilities with other researchers working on different platforms. There is no longer a need to have three different software packages, and three different file formats, for different Operating Systems.

Windows

Mnova should run in any Windows computer able to run Windows 10 or higher Windows versions

Warning

Mnova will not install under Windows XP or lower.

The default installation requires about 1,1 GB of disk space.

If you are going to install (or uninstall) the program on a Windows system, be sure you have administrator privileges, because the installation procedure is going to install several files in your system folders. If you don't have such privileges, you won't be able to install or uninstall the program correctly.

Note

There is an installer that runs with user privileges, but it gives up some features such as some MSChrom converters. Ask to support for more details.

macOS

Mnova requires macOS 11 or later. Since version 17, Mnova includes native support for Apple Silicon (ARM-based) processors.

Linux

Mnova should run on any machine being able to run a Ubuntu Desktop distribution. Mnova has installation packages for the following Linux distributions:

• Debian 13
• Ubuntu 24.04, 26.04
• RedHat 8, 9, 10

In addition there is an AppImage installer that should work on any other Linux distribution.

Installation Guide

Instructions to Install and Activate an Individual Copy of Mnova:

Windows

1. If you are going to install the program on a Windows system, be sure you have administrator privileges, because the installation procedure is going to install several files in your system folders. If you don't have such privileges, you won't be able to install or uninstall the program correctly.

2. On each host, download the Mnova SETUP file from our website at https://mestrelab.com/download/mnova/. Then, double click on the Mnova SETUP file and follow the instructions as they appear on screen.

   If you have had a version of Mnova installed previously, the installer will inform you that it is necessary to uninstall the previous version of Mnova. Make sure that this version is closed and click OK and then OK again to confirm. This will uninstall Mnova from your computer. You will get a message to inform you that uninstall was successful: click 'Continue'.

   Once you have read and accepted the terms of the License Agreement, click on "Next" and select the destination folder where the program files will be placed in your computer. We suggest that you accept all the installation defaults. Once you have chosen the Start Menu Folder as prompted by the installer, click on "Install". This will install the application on your computer. On completing the installation, it will prompt you to select "Finish" to run the application.

   Note

   if you receive a message telling that you need to enable your Microsoft NET 2.0, please check this tutorial, or uncheck the Masshunter provider during the installation.

macOS

1. Download the Mnova disk image file from our website at https://mestrelab.com/download/mnova/.

2. Double click on the Mnova disk image to mount the image, agree our EULA and wait until a window like this is shown:

   3. Copy the Mnova application bundle to your Applications folder just by dragging the Mnova icon into the Applications folder icon.

   Note

   If you already have a version, the system will ask you if you want to replace it or keep both

Linux

1. Download the Mnova RPM, DEB or AppImage file from our website at https://mestrelab.com/download/mnova/

2. In some distributions, you can double click into the downloaded package and either it will install it or it will ask you to install it. In any case, from the command line you can:

   1. Open a terminal

   2. Navigate to the directory where the installation package file is located

      cd /path/to/download/folder
      

      3. Install the pakcage (Replace package-name with the actual filename):

      • Debian, Ubuntu (*.deb):

        sudo dpkg -i package-name.deb
        

        Note

        If the installation reports missing dependencies, run:

        sudo apt-get install -f
        

      • RedHat (*.rpm):

        sudo rpm -ihv package-name.rpm
        

        Note

        You can also use a package manager like yum or dnf to install the rpm package which will try to resolve any dependecy automatically.

        sudo yum install package-name.rpm
        

        sudo dnf install package-name.rpm
        

   3. To update Mnova if you already had installed a previous version:

      • Debian, Ubuntu (*.deb):

        sudo dpkg -i package-name.deb
        

      • RedHat (*.rpm):

            sudo rpm -U package-name.rpm
        

Running for first time and installing licenses

1. Run the application on each host. The following dialog, notifying you that some licenses (for some plugins) were not found, will appear:

   

2. Evaluate

   1. If you want to make a trial, click on the 'Evauate' button to be redirected to a website where you will be asked for a few registration details. An illustrative example appears below.

      

      Your evaluation license will be generated after having clicked on 'Get a free evaluation license'.

   2. It will display a window to inform you that you will receive an email to confirm your details

      

   3. Once you have received the email, please click on the link to confirm that you are a human and your email address and details are valid. This will display a new window (Step 2) which will allow you to obtain your license file just by clicking on the 'Confirm email and download license files’ button.Save the 'Evaluation License' file on your disc (Step 3).

      

   4. Install the license:

      • Either drag&drop the license files to Mnova in order to install them.

      • Or you can also follow the menu ‘File/Help/Request Licenses’ and click on ‘Install' button.

        

        This will open the 'Select License File' dialog (see the picture below). Navigate on your files browser until you find the license file (or a .zip file containing several licenses), and double click on it and select it. Now you should be able to run the application without receiving an error message dialog.

        

3. Buy

   Alternately if you press the 'Buy' button you are again redirected to a web-page where a similar procedure occurs. However, instead of receiving a license right away your registration information and your Host ID number are automatically sent to our Sales Department by e-mail. They will handle your purchase request and, once the financial formalities are complete, you will receive your license file with installation and activation instructions by e-mail.

4. Install

   If you have already a license file, click on the 'Install' button and the 'Select License File' dialog will shown. Navigate on your files browser until you find the license file (or a .zip file containing several licenses), and double click on it and select it. Now you should be able to run the application without receiving an error message dialog.

   

Uninstalling Mnova

Windows

You can uninstall Mnova from Windows 'Settings → Apps → Installed apps' you can find Mnova into the list or type into the search box. Once found it clicking on the three dots button at the right of the item and select 'Uninstall' in the dropdown menu

macOS

To uninstall Mnova on macOS, just move the application icon into the bin.

Linux

To uninstall Mnova in Linux:

• Debian, Ubuntu (*.deb):

  sudo dpkg -r mestrenova
  

• RedHat (*.rpm):

  sudo rpm -e MestReNova
