Niels Van Brempt

Dr. Niels Van Brempt

Software Developer

Niels was born in a town not far from Antwerp (Belgium) and graduated in 2016 as a Masters of Physics, with a research module on Biophysics and Medical Physics at the university of Antwerp. After a short research period at the KU Leuven (Belgium) during which he worked on protein crystallography and fragment-based drug discovery, he returned to his alma mater to pursue a PhD degree in Physics. His main research activities included the overexpression, subsequent spectroscopic characterization and activity testing of globin proteins such as the ancient protoglobin and various nematode globins. With his PhD defence approaching, he moved to Santiago to join the RICA team of Mestrelab in April 2021 as a software and application developer and a quality control specialist. As a passionate spectroscopist fresh out of academia with a strong background and experience in electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, he will address the different customer needs and translate them into algorithms and scripts for our applications.
